UMW Women's Lacrosse Falls to Haverford, 9-6, on Sunday

The University of Mary Washington women's lacrosse team dropped a 9-6 decision to Haverford College on Sunday evening in Baltimore, Md. The Eagles slip to 2-4 on the season.

In an action packed first quarter, Haverford scored the first two goals, before the Eagles answered with three straight to take the lead. Katie Blair started the Eagle scoring at 10:14 on a Caeley Terapane assist, and Abigail Fisher folllowed at 7:16, unassisted. Daelyn Gregory capped the run with 2:32 remaining, on a pass from Taylar Hackney.

Haverford scored the final goal of the first and the opener in the second to lead, 4-3, but UMW drew even on Blair's second of the day, assisted by Bridget Crowley. The score remained tied at four at halftime.

The third quarter proved pivotal, as Haverford outscored the Eagles, 4-1, by netting the first four scores of the period. Blair completed the hat trick in the third, and Terapane scored UMW's goal in the fourth on a Rachel Oestrike assist.

The Eagles led in shots, 24-21, and Haverford held a 17-16 edge in ground balls and a 14-5 advantage in draw controls. Cailyn Tripp made four saves on the day for UMW, who will return to action on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. at Shenandoah University.
