UMW Women's Lacrosse Falls at Washington (Md.), 15-8

The University of Mary Washington women's lacrosse team dug itself an early hole, and couldn't climb back in a 15-8 loss at Washington (Md.) College on Wednesday evening. The Eagles slip to 1-3 on the season.

Washington netted the first two goals of the game, before the Eagles scored on a Caeley Terapane score, assisted by Kimber Konen, at 10:56. The Shorewomen closed the quarter on a 5-0 run to lead, 7-1, after 15 minutes.

In the second, the hosts kept up the pressure, netting the first two goals before Terapane scored again  on a Victoria Mueller assist at 6:08. Washingtons cored the final two of the frame to lead, 11-2, at halftime.

In the third quarter, Washington opened the scoring, before the Eagles responded with three straight. Mueller scored on a player-up score, and Katie Blair followed with two goals, at 5:25 and 2:01, to draw UMW to within 12-5. The Shorewomen scord twice to end the quarter and lead, 14-5, after three frames.

In the fourth, freshman Abigail Fisher netted the first two goals of the quarter, with assists going to Taylar Hackney and Bridget Crowley. Blair capped the scoring in the final minute.

Washington led in shots, 31-19, and ground balls, 13-12. UMW goalkeeper Cailyn Tripp had one save in 11 minutes, and Alison Carolan came in for six saves in 49 minutes of relief.

The Eagles will be back in action on March 7, when they host Kenyon College at 1:00 p.m.
