UMW Women's Lax Falls at #17 Stevens, 9-8

The University of Mary Washington women's lacrosse team dropped a 9-8 decision at 17th ranked Stevens Institute on Saturday afternoon. The Eagles slip to 1-2 on the season.

Senior Katie Blair opened the scoring in the first minute, and sophomore Kimber Konen added another with 5:25 left in the first, before the Ducks got on the board, and the Eagles led, 2-1, after 15 minutes.

In the second, junior Molly Daw put the Eagles ahead, 3-1, with 8:24 remaining. Konen followed with a free position score with 6:19 left, and Caeley Terapane added another with 5:04 on the clock to put the Eagles up, 5-1. Stevens added a late score to draw to within 5-2.

In the third, the Ducks scored the first two to draw to within 5-4, but Terapane added another with 5:27 left. Stevens capped the quarter with a goal, to draw to within 6-5 entering the fourth. Blair opened the fourth with her second tally, but four straight Stevens goals put the hosts ahead to stay. Blair added her third in the waning moments.

Stevens led in shots, 26-19, and draw controls, 14-6. UMW goalkeeper Cailyn Tripp made 11 saves on the day.

The Eagles will return toa ction on Wednesday, when they visit Washington College at 4:00 p.m.
