UMW Women's Lacrosse Erupts for 17-6 Win Over Lynchburg in Season Lidlifter

The University of Mary Washington women's lacrosse team erupted for eight first quarter goals en route to a 17-6 win over the University of Lynchburg on Saturday afternoon at the Battleground. 

UMW gained four goals each from junior Caeley Terapane and senior Bridget Crowley, and that duo led the charge in the first quarter. Crowley opened the scoring at 14:27, and Terapane followed on a Crowley assist at 12:45. After a Hornets score, Terapane scored again at 10:20, on a Victoria Mueller assist. After Lynchburg drew to within 3-1, the Eagles reeled off five straight to close the frame. Crowley scored on a free position shot, and Terapane followed on a Crowley assist. Molly Daw followed on a Terapane assist, and freshmen Anna Dube and Abigail Fisher follwoed with their first collegiate scores.

The Eagles continued to roll in the second, as Crowley opened with a score assisted by Daw. After the Hornets found the nets for a goal, the Eagles scored four straight, with Terapane, Daw, Dube, and Katie Blair connecting. The Eagles led, 13-4, at halftime.

In the third, Crowley, Blair, and Mueller scored to run the lead to 16-4 before Lynchburg scored once to end the quarter, and another to open the fourth. Kimber Konen capped the scoring on a Crowley assist.

Crowley scored four goals and added three assists, while Terapane added four goals and one assist.

UMW led in shots, 29-20, as well as ground balls, 19-12. Lynchburg gained 16 of 27 draw controls. UMW saw three goalkeepers gain saves, with Cailyn Tripp recording six, Alison Carolan adding two, and Cece Van Blenis adding another.

The Eagles will be back in action on Wenesday when they host randolph-Macon College at 6:00 p.m.
