Three with Hat Tricks as UMW Women's Lacrosse Tops Stevenson, 11-6

Three players scored 3 goals to lead the University of Mary Washington women's lacrosse team past  Stevenson University, 11-6, on Wednesday evening in Owings Mill, MD. The Eagles improve to 5-1 on the season.

UMW held control in the 1st quarter, as Maya Koebke scored the game's first goal at 14:24, with Erin Steinberg not far behind with a goal at 11:51, with Koebke earning the assist. Stevenson scored at 9:03 on a free-position shot, but Maya Koebke came back with a free-position shot of her own with 14 seconds left in the 1st quarter to give UMW a 3-1 advantage.

Mary Washington junior Katie Blair quickly in the 2nd quarter, finding the back of the net at 12:58. Stevenson answered with two back-to-back goals at 9:51 and 7:26 to cut the deficit down to 4-3 UMW. The Eagles would find their rhythm and score 4-straight goals in the last 5 minutes of the first half off the sticks of Erin Steinberg, Maya Koebke, Katie Blair, and Victoria Mueller

The 3rd quarter was scoreless, as both offenses had chances, both defenses stood tall, and both goals made great saves. The Mustangs scored for the first time in 25 minutes with 9:27 left in the 4th quarter, with UMW senior Kayla Sarazin scoring, off the assist from Lucy Shraff. Erin Steinberg would score at 5:52 and Katie Blair would score with 40 seconds left in the game to finalize the victory at 11-6.

The Eagles led in shots, 25-21, and in ground balls, 14-12 The Eagles won 10 of 21 draw controls, with Sarazin collecting seven. UMW junior goalkeeper Cailyn Tripp made 7 saves for the Eagles.

Mary Washington will be back on Sunday to host the University of Chicago at 2:00 p.m.
