UMW Women's Lacrosse Edges Moravian, 12-10, on Wednesday

The University of Mary Washingotn women's lacrosse team ran out to a 6-2 first quarter lead and held on for a 12-10 victory at Moravian College on Wednesday afternoon. The Eagles improve to 8-6 on the season.

UMW started swiftly, as Erin Steinberg opened the scoring less than a minute into play on an assist from Carly Lanzarotta. Clare Madden added anoth just over a minute later, and Stenberg added another at 10:36 on a Kayla Sarazin assist to push the Eagle lead to 3-0. Rebecca Pullen scored at 7:55 on a Samantha Stachowiak assist, and Madden followed with another at 6:09 to push the lead to 5-0.

After a pair of Greyhound scores, Sraazin closed the first quarter with a goal assisted by Pullen at two seconds left.

In the second, Moravian scored three goals to draw to within one at halftime, and then the first two of the third quarter to take a 7-6 lead. Caeley Terapnae tied the score in a man-up situation with 8:52 left, and Molly Daw gave the Eagles the lead with 6:01 remaining. After a Greyhound goal, Pullen gave the Eagles the lead heading to the fourth quarter with a score with 26 seconds left on a Sarazin assist.

In the fourth, Lanzarotta scored on a Daw assist to open play, and after another Moravian score, Madden and Pullen scored unassisted, and the Eagles held on for the 12-10 win.

UMW led in shots, 28-19. UMW goalkeeper Reilly Miller made three saves in the win.

The Eagles will be back in action on Saturday, when they visit Christopher Newport University at 1:00 p.m.
