UMW Women's Lacrosse Falls to Scranton, 11-10, on Saturday

The University of Mary Washington women's lacrosse team dropped an 11-10 decision to the University of Scranton on Saturday afternoon at the Battleground. The Eagles slip to 3-4 on the season.

Mary Washington opened the scoring, with goals from Kayla Sarazin at 11:59 and Katie Blair at 11:02 in the first quarter. After a Scranton score, Blair added her second of the day, with 8:14 remaining. The Royals cut the margin to 3-2 to end the first, but UMW reeled off the next three to open the second. Blair scored on a Molly Daw assist with 12:05 left, and Erin Steinberg added another on Sarazin's second assist of the day with 11:10 left before halftime. DAw then scored at 8:01 to give UMW a 6-2 lead. Scranton scored twice late to cut the margin to 6-4 by intermission.

In the third, Scranton continued its momentum to open the period, with a pair of scores to tie the game at 6-6. Blair put UMW back on top with 7:39 remaining, and after a Scranton goal, Rebecca Pullen and Blair put UMW up, 9-7. Scranton closed the third with a tally to draw to within 9-8. Scranton scored the first three goals of the fourth to move into the lead at 11-9, and UMW found the last goal from Steinberg with 52 seconds left.

Blair had five goals and Sarazin added a goal and three assists for UMW. Eagle goalkeeper Reilly Miller made 15 saves.

Scranton led in shots, 31-23.

UMW will be back in action on Wednesday when the Eagles visit Washington (MD) College at 4:00 p.m.
