Salisbury seniors Alexis Strobel, Carrie Hesen, Julie Talbert and head coach Jim Nestor along with Mary Washington's Katie Blair received major awards to highlight the 2021 All-C2C Women's Lacrosse Team. The Sea Gulls led the way with five of its seven all-conference selections achieving first team status, while Christopher Newport collected a league-best eight All-C2C honorees.
Offensive Player of the Year: Alexis Strobel - Salisbury
Strobel was a key offensive threat for Salisbury throughout the season. Strobel has scored more than one goal in eight games while tallying multiple points in each of the 13 games in 2021. The senior leads the conference with 79 points on a league-high 57 assists along with 22 goals. Strobel sits atop the NCAA Division III assists rankings at 57 total and 4.38 per game.
Defensive Player of the Year: Carrie Hesen - Salisbury
Hesen anchored Salisbury defense this season and was assigned to defend the best players in the country. She has collected a team-high 43 draw controls, 19 ground balls and 16 caused turnovers on the year. The senior earned four C2C Defensive Player of the Week awards throughout the year for the unbeaten Sea Gulls, who allowed 8.7 goals per contest in league play.
Rookie of the Year: Katie Blair - Mary Washington
Blair is a dynamic attacker who has been a consistent performer and made a huge impact in every conference match. She is tied for the team lead in goals and second in points during her debut season. Blair has registered 23 goals this year and has consistently been UMW's best shooter with an impressive 87.7 shots on goal percentage.
Scholar-Athlete of the Year: Julie Talbert - Salisbury
Talbert is a biochemistry major that excels in both the classroom and on the field. The senior attacker scored 18 goals on the year with seven points to total 25 points in 2021. Her natural ability to be a leader on the field and in the classroom has set an expectation for her teammates that there is more to playing a college sport than just athletics. Talbert plans to continue her education at Vanderbilt University to pursue her doctorate in chemistry.
Coaching Staff of the Year: Salisbury University, Head Coach: Jim Nestor (14th time)
Nestor guided Salisbury to its fifth unbeaten regular season in program history and first since the 2013 season. The Sea Gulls defeated eight ranked teams during the 2021 season. In conference play, the Sea Gulls outscored opponents 112-44 in seven C2C games. It is the 14th time that Nestor and his staff were selected for league honors.
