#17 UMW Women's Lacrosse Tops Hood in CAC Play, 21-6

Junior midifelder Katie Wallis (Cypress, Texas, Cy-Creek) scored five goals and added an assist and sophomore Lauren Callison (Stevensville, Md., Kent Island) added four goals and three assists to lead the seventeenth-ranked University of Mary Washington women's lacrosse team to a 21-6 victory over Hood College in Capital Athletic Conference play on Thursday. The Eagles improve to 4-1 on the season, and 2-0 in CAC play.

The Eagles also received three goals and three assists from sophomore Catherine Kennedy (Baltimore, Md., Baltimore Lutheran), three scores from senior Brittany Butler (Easton, Conn., Joel Barlow), and one goal and two assists from Jenny Atmar (Houston, Texas, Bellaire) and Keller Torrey (Roswell, Ga., Centennial). Atmar continued to dominate in the midfield, registering eight ground balls, seven draw controls, and six caused turnovers.

UMW led, 13-2, at halftime, thanks to scoring 12 of the game's first 13 goals. For the game, UMW outshot the Blazers, 44-16, and had 22 ground balls to 18 for Hood. The Eagles were a perfect 14-14 on clear attempts.

Freshman Kathryn Stiltz (Marietta, Ga., Walton) made seven saves in gaining her first win in her first start of the year.

The Eagles will visit nnationally-ranked Washington & Lee University on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
