The University of Mary Washington women's basketball team dropped a 76-54 decision to top-ranked Christopher Newport University, 76-54, on Friday afternoon in Santa Cruz, California. The Eagles slip to 18-9 on the season.
The Eagles dug an early hole in the first, as CNU opened with a 20-4 lead in the first 10 minutes. After that, the Eagles settled down, but were unable to overcame the deficit.
Sophomore Keagan Schwab ld the Eagles with 19 points on 5-15 shooting, making 8-9 free throws. She also led the team with nine rebounds.
UMW shot 31.3% from the field (15-48), making 2-10 three point attempts and 22-29 free throws. Christopher Newport shot 51.9% from the field, making 5-16 three point attempts and 15-21 free throws. UMW held a 34-31 rebounding edge.
UMW, ranked fourth in the latest NCAA regional rankings, will await the announcement of the NCAA Tournament field on Monday.
