Carpenter's Double-Double Leads UMW Women's Basketball Past Wesleyan, 72-69

Sophomore forward Jordan Carpenter scored a career-high 18 points and added 13 rebounds as the University of Mary Washington women's basketball team defeated Wesleyan (Conn.) College, 72-69, on Saturday night in Selinsgrove, Pa. at the Susquehanna University Tipoff Tournament. The Eagles improve to 2-0 on the season.

Carpenter shot 4-9 from the floor and 10-12 from the free throw line to kickstart a rally that led the Eagles from behind in the fourth quarter. Freshman guard Megan Baxter scoed 12 points despite foul trouble, shooting 4-7 from the floor, including two three pointers. Senior guard Bri Harper added 11 points on 5-8 shooting from the field, and sophomore Sydney Sherman added 10 points on 4-9 shooting from the field.

The Eagles shot 37.1% from the floor (23-62), making 3-12 freethrows and 23-29 free throws. Wesleyan shot 35.1% (26-74), making 6-24 three point shots and 11-16 free throws. The Eagles were outrebounded, 46-45.

Mary Washington will face Susquehanna on Sunday at 3:00 in the tournament championship.
