UMW Softball Swept By No. 9 Chris. Newport

The Mary Washington softball team fell in its Saturday doubleheader to No. 9 Christopher Newport on Saturday afternoon in Fredericksburg, Va.

Game 1 - Eagles lose - 8-1

UMW fell behind by eight runs in the first seven innings before it was able to score its first run of the day in the seventh when Bridget Laychak scored on a wild pitch.

Taylor Hudson, though, fared well in the circle as she yielded three runs in four innings in the loss.

Game 2 - Eagles lose - 5-1

The Eagles got hits from Aminah Shakir, Emma Dickson and a pair from Caitlyn Burch but it wasn't enough in the loss to CNU.

Burch tossed six innings of five-run (two earned) ball, while striking out six in the Eagles' loss. Sydney Jester, meanwhile, tossed a shutout inning. 

The Eagles went up by a run in the bottom of the first when Shakir tripled then scored on a wild pitch, but from there, the Eagles were outscored by five.

UMW is back in action at Marymount on Thursday with a doubleheader -- first pitch is set for 3:00 p.m.
