UMW Softball Drops DH to No. 8 Randolph-Macon

The Mary Washington softball team dropped a Saturday doubleheader to No. 8 Randolph-Macon on Saturday afternoon in Ashland, Va.

Game 1 - Eagles lose - 8-0

Mary Washington fell behind by five after the first two innings and could never recover.

Aminah Shakir went 2-for-3 for the Eagles, while Bridget Laychak, Emma Schieda, Erica Shoop and Abby Fielder all recorded hits.

Game 2 - Eagles lose - 2-1

Game 2 went better for UMW as Caitlyn Burch worked 7.1 innings for the Eagles, surrendering one earned run on eight hits, while striking out five.

The Eagles jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the second when they pulled off a double steal as Fielder took off for second and Laychak scored.

In the sixth, Macon would tie it, then walked it off in the eighth on an RBI single.

The Eagles are back in action on Tuesday with a doubleheader against Mary Baldwin. First pitch is set for 3:00 p.m.
