UMW Softball Drops Doubleheader to #10 Randolph-Macon

The University of Mary Washington softball team dropped a pair of games to 10th ranked Randolph-Macon College, 4-0 and 4-3, on Saturday at the Battleground. The Eagles slip to 16-14 on the season.

In the opener, the Yellow Jackets scored a run in the first, and added single runs in the fourth, fifth, and seventh, while holding the Eagles without a hit. Senior Stephanie Folkner took the loss, allowing one run on one hit in one inning. Caitlyn Burch allowed two earned runs in six innings with three walks and nine strikeouts.

In the second game, the Eagles jumped ahead with a run in the first, as Bridget Laychak, Emma Schieda, and Hannah Steele all singled with two outs. The Eagles extended the lead to 2-0 in the second, as Shelby Presgrave reached on an error, allowing Samantha Stuart to score.

RMC used runs in the fourth and sixth to tie the score, but UMW went back ahead in the bottom of the sixth, as Presgrave singled and scored on an Aminah Shakir single. RMC scored two in the seventh for the win.

Schieda had three hits to lead UMW, while Laychak singled and doubled. Stuart took the loss, allowing four runs on five hits in seven innings, with three walks and two strikeouts.

UMW will be back in action on Wednesday when the Eagles host Marymount University at 3:00 p.m.
