Charan Shankar, Leese, Rein, Helbling Gain Top Honors on C2C Men's Tennis All-Conference Teams

University of Mary Washington seniors Rishi Charan Shankar and Peter Leese, freshman Trevor Rein, and head coach Todd Helbling gained end-of-year honors as the 2024 Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference all-conference teams were announced on Wednesday. Charan Shankar and Leese were named as the doubles team of the year, Leese gained Scholar-Athlete of the Year, Rein gained Rookie of the Year, and Helbling gained coaching staff of the year. 

Charan Shankar and Leese are ranked 10th in the nation in doubles, and boast a 29-4 overall record. They are currently ranked fourth in the Atlantic South region. They competed in the ITA Cup in the fall, gaining All-America honors. Leese is a senior Business Administration and Accounting double major and Financial and Quantitative Analysis minor, and is a member of the C2C All-Academic Team and UMW Athletic Honor Roll, as well as the ITA All-Academic Team.

Rein has turned in an excellent freshman campaign, playing mainly four singles as well as two doubles. He has sported an 18-10 singles record, as well as a 16-13 doubles mark. Helbling has led the 22nd ranked Eagles to a 14-7 record and top seed in the C2C Tournament to be held this weekend. He is aiming to direct the Eagles to their 23rd conference title and NCAA appearance in his 26 year career at UMW.

Charan Shankar and junior Brock Ladehoff gained first etam all-conference honors, while Rein gained second team accolades. In doubles, Charan Shankar and Leese scored first team honors, while Ladehoff and Artis Hart gained second team honors.
