UMW Men's Tennis Opens Spring with 9-0 Win Over Stevens

The University of Mary Washington men's tennis team opened the 2022 spring schedule with a 9-0 victory over Stevens Institute on Friday at the UMW Indoor Tennis Center. While no national rankings have been released for 2021-22, both teams were ranked at the conclusion of the 2020-21 campaign.

The Eagles began the day with a sweep at doubles. Nationally-ranked Moses Hutchison and Andrew Watson defeated Feliu and Kulakarni, 8-1, at one, and Rishi Charan SHankar and Nick Spera defeated Morris and Wroe at two, 8-1. Peter Leese and Cole Tecce defeated Zhang and Persson, 8-3, at three.

In singles, Hutchison defeated Morris, 6-2, 6-4 at one, and Charan Shankar downed Feliu, 6-1, 6-1, at two. Watson defeated Kulakarni at three, 7-5, 6-2, and Leese beat Harinaryan at four, 6-3, 4-6, 10-7. Artis Hart defeated Luzzi at five, 6-0, 6-2, and Cole Tecce downed Wroe at six, 6-2, 6-0.

The Eagles will return to action on Sunday when they host Kenyon College at 11:00 AM.
