Kirkland, Kilby Gain Top Honors as UMW Men's Soccer Sees Seven Gain All-C2C Honors

Senior Josh Kirkland gained Offensive Player of the Year for the third straight year, and Jason Kilby and his staff gained Coaching Staff of the Year as the 2023 Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference released its men's soccer all-conference teams on Wednesday. Seven Eagles were honored, including five on the first team.

Kilby led Mary Washington to the program's first-ever #1 national ranking with a 14-1-2 regular season coming off last season's final four appearance. He is 264-105-40 in his coaching career, including 144-62-27 at UMW in 13 seasons.

Kirkland gained Offensive Player of the Year and first team all-conference after leading the team with 12 goals and 30 points in the regular season. He has provided five game winning goals, against Salisbury, York, Gettysburg, St. Mary's, and Christopher Newport, and surpassed the 100-point plateau.

Joining Kirkland at forward on the first team is junior Carter Berg. Berg ranks first on the team with 10 assists to go with eight goals, for 26 points, and has provided game winning tallies against Emory and Stevenson.He notched three assists in a win over Salisbury.

Senior Gabe Francesconi gains first team honors at midfield. After missing last season due to injury, Francesconi has recorded career highs with four goals and four assists this season, while playing in every game.

Senior defender Nathan Terrell takes first team accolades after helping lead a defense that has recorded nine shutouts and allowed more than one goal in just two games this season. Junior goalkeeper Freddy Rogers was named to the first team after posting nine shutouts, and allowing 10 goals in 17 games with an .848 save percentage with 58 saves.

Midfielder Jordy Santana was named to the second team. Santana has started all 17 games, providing a critical link between the defense and offense, scoring one goal and adding two assists. He netted the game winner against Lycoming College.

Joining Santana on the second team is senior defender Aidan Shell. A first time all-conference pick, Shell has started all 17 games, and also added two goals and one assist, including the game winning score against Rensellaer.

The Eagles will open postseason play in the semifinal round of the C2C Tournament on Friday at 2:00 p.m. Eastern time in Santa Cruz, Cal. against an opponent to be determined.
