Kirkland Joins 100 Point Club as No. 2 UMW Men's Soccer Downs CNU, 2-0

With the stands packed full of Mary Washington fans on Tailgate Saturday, the No. 2 Mary Washington men's soccer team (14-1-2) beat Christopher Newport, 2-0, in Fredericksburg, Va to end its regular season on a high note.

Josh Kirkland (23') and Nelsar Castillo (58') scored the two goals for the Eagles.

Kirkland's came early in the first half as he launched a rocket towards the net -- the ball deflected off of a CNU defender before it hit the back of the goal. Kirkland became at least the fourth member of the 100 Point Club in Mary Washington men soccer's history. He added another point on Castillo's goal in the second half to run his career point total to 102.

The Eagles lead in shots (18-11) and corners (5-3) as 10 of their shots were on net.

Kirkland recorded three on goal, while Carter Berg (who assisted on Kirkland's goal) recorded two shots on goal.

Keeper Freddy Rogers recorded seven total saves on the day as he helped the Eagles to their ninth shutout win of the season.

Mary Washington is back in action later this week (Thursday-Sunday) in the Coast-to-Coast Conference Championship in Santa Cruz, Calif. The Eagles are searching for their second-straight C2C Champioonship.
