As the soccer ball flew Elliot Berg's way off of Michael Lenhard's corner on the nearside, Berg lunged his head at the ball. In the right place at the right time, the soccer ball connected with Berg's head and past Catholic's keeper to give No. 2 Mary Washington a 1-0 lead late in the first half.

Berg, who had just scored his first career goal, took off towards the corner on the farside, screaming as his teammates mobbed him before he was greeted by Lenhard for a high five.

Berg's older brother, junior forward Carter Berg, jumped up and down as Elliot ran back towards midfield to get ready to finish off the final minutes of the first half.

Berg's header was the only goal the Eagles (13-1-2) needed on Wednesday night as Mary Washington took down Catholic, 1-0, in Fredericksburg, Va.

He scored in the 44th minute off of a set piece from Lenhard. It was the Eagles' seventh shot of the half -- and was the one that broke the scoreless tie.

On the day, Mary Washington recorded 13 total shots on five corners, while holding Catholic to 10 shots on three corners.

UMW's defensive presence held strong as keeper Freddy Rogers recorded two saves as he partook in the Eagles' seventh shutout of the year.

Mary Washington has not lost in seven-straight ties and ends the regular season on Saturday against Christopher Newport. First touch for the Homecoming and Senior Day game is set for 2:00 p.m.
