No. 4 UMW Men's Soccer's Freddy Rogers Wins C2C's Defensive Player of the Week Award

It didn't take long for Freddy Rogers to make an impression on the Coast-to-Coast Conference. Rogers, playing his first two games in a UMW uniform, took home the C2C's Defensive Player of the Week award.

Rogers posted a clean sheet to open the season for the Eagles, recording a total of 10 saves this weekend including seven against No. 7 Johns Hopkins. Johns Hopkins came out firing with goals on Sunday – UMW's offense later would grow into the game -- but for a while, it was Rogers who kept the game scoreless for 41 minutes before the Eagles scored first. Rogers was subbed out in the last 12 minutes of the RPI game – after not allowing a goal and totaling three saves -- and received a well-deserved break before excelling against Hopkins.

C2C Honorable Mention: Junior forward Carter Berg opened the season where he left off last season, scoring a goal in each of the Eagles' 4-0 victories this weekend. He booted his first of the year in a 4-0 win over Rensselaer on Friday and added one in a 4-0 win over #7 Johns Hopkins on Sunday. Both goals were assisted by Josh Kirkland.
