Berg's Late Surge Leads UMW Men's Soccer Past Catholic, 3-1

Sophomore forward Carter Berg scored a pair of goals in the final 10:07 of the game to break a 1-1 tie, as the University of Mary Washington men's soccer team defeated Catholic University, 3-1, on Wednesday night in Washington, D.C. The Eagles improve to 5-3-2 on the season.

After a scoreless first half, Catholic scored first with a tally at 62:54. The Eagles tied the score at 1-1 on senior Josh Kirkland's eighth tally of the season, coming at 72:34 on an assist from freshman Sammy Amorose. Berg put the Eagles ahead at 79:53 on a Will Thompson assist, and added an insurance tally in the final minute.

Catholic led in shots, 16-14, and each team had four corner kicks. UMW goalkeeper Griffin Hemmendinger made four saves in recording the win.

The Eagles will be back in action on Saturday when they host York College of PA at 3:00 p.m.
