Six Eagles Named to All-C2C Men's Soccer Team; Kirkland Named Offensive POY

Junior forward Josh Kirkland (Richmond, Va./Deep Run) was named as the league's Offensive Player of the Year, and six University of Mary Washington players were named as the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference announced its all-conference teams on Wednesday. Seniors Ken Kurtz (Katonah, N.Y./Somers) and Jacob Kautzman (Springfield, Va./South County) and junior Abel Luwis (McLean, Va./Hearts of the Lord) joined Kirkland on the first team, while freshman Carter Berg (Reston, Va./South Lakes) and junior Gabe Francesconi (Berlin, N.J./Eastern Regional) were selected to the second team.

Kirkland gained C2C Offensive Player of the Year after leading the Eagles with six goals and two assists in 15 contests. Four of Kirkland's scores were game winners, coming against Shenandoah, Lynchburg, Catholic, and St. Mary's. All but one of his scores were the first of the game for the Eagles, with the other being his second goal of the game in a 2-0 win over Catholic.

Kurtz gains first team all-conference honors for the third straight season, leading the Eagle defense with a 0.77 goals-against average and five shutouts in 13 games. UMW's all-time shutouts leader, Kurtz has made 30 saves in garnering seven victories, pushing his career win total to 34.

Kautzman has been the leader of the Eagle's back line this season after joining the starting lineup this season. He has started every game, recording one assist, and led the Eagle defense to a 0.84 GAA with 13 goals allowed all season.

Luwis also joined the starting lineup this season, scoring four goals in 15 games, with one game winner, against Stevenson University. He has also scored against Shenandoah, St. Mary's, and Salisbury.

Berg gains second team honors after scoring a pair of goals and adding a team-high six assists in 15 games (nine starts), with goals coming against St. Mary's and Lynchburg. He had assists on both goals in a 2-0 win over Catholic.

Francesconi has been instrumental in the Eagles' central midfield, scoring one goal and adding three assists in 15 starts. His goal came late against Stevenson to draw the Eagles even, in a game they eventually won.

The Eagles will open the C2C Tournament on Friday in semifinal action at 2:00 p.m.
