UMW Men's Rugby Tops Va. Tech, 76-12

UMW hosted Virginia Tech Rugby in a crucial CCRC conference game in Fredericksburg VA yesterday.  VT and UMW have been rivals longer than any two schools in this league with mutual respect dating to the late 80's - alums are always ready to see this game in their new feed.

Seb Schefermann led UMW with three try's (2 in the first half), Aidan Gallagher was lethal with his boot (converting 6 times) and UMW enjoyed additional first half try's from ever dangerous wing Conn Foster (on a early 75 yard run), fullback and budding pro rugger Bill Tamani (with an awesome run) and 2 try's from wing Lewis Naylor. Not to be forgotten were try's by prop Cameron Giwa and flanker Tobey Barnfield-Lee (who will be playing pro rugby somewhere one day - trust us).  At halftime UMW was up 57-0 (senior Seamus Brennan and sophomore flanker leading the way with solid tackling to compliment flanker Tobey Barnfield-Lee )

VT never quits and came out fighting in the second half but UMW continued to push.  Jose Reyes subbed in for man of the match Kit Waddington at scrumhalf and promptly scored as did center Rory Naylor - this is the kind of depth that all college sides need when you have players like Joseph Ritter, Jose Reyes and Rory Naylor that actually increase the pace of play and physicality the moment they hit the field.

Jamie Cooper converted two second half scores off the tee.  At the final whistle UMW 76 VT 12.  VT is to be commended for their fight, touching down twice late in the game.

Hats off to UMW's "Futures Cup" side as they are undefeated and working hard to push the first side at all positions.

UMW moves to 4-0 in the league as they host a very strong Mount St Mary's (who is first in the league), this weekend at the Battleground.
