UMW Men's Lacrosse Falls at Washington Md., 14-6

The University of Mary Washington men's lacrosse team dropped a 14-6 decision on Saturday at Washington (Md.) College. The Eagles slip to 4-5 on the season.

The Shoremen opened the first with the first three scores of the day. Junior Henry Moag scored on a Garrett Keogh assist with 3:38 remaining in the first to put UMW on the board, but Washington answered with another to close the first with a 4-1 lead.

The two sides played even in the second, with each team netting a pair of goals. UMW started strong, as Keogh scored unassisted to open the period scoring at 10:50, and Carter Lynch cut the deficit to 4-3 with 3:23 left. The Shoremen scored a pair in the final minute, and carried a 6-3 lead to halftime.

Washington opened the third with three scores to build a 9-3 advantage, before the Eagles rallied for goals from Keogh with 5:23 left and Dave Votapek on a Keller Dillman assist with 5:10 remaining. In the fourth the hosts netted the first five scores to take command before Jake Furman scored unassisted with 1:12 remaining to cap the scoring.

Washington led in shots, 60-48, as well as in ground balls, 42-30. The Eagles won 12 of 23 faceoffs. UMW goalie Riley Green made 17 saves for the Eagles. 

UMW will return to action on March 29 at Bridgewater College at 7:00 p.m.
