UMW Men's Basketball Downed by No. 2 Hampden-Sydney

The Mary Washington men's basketball team fell to No. 2 Hampden-Sydney on Saturday afternoon in Farmville, Va., 70-59.

The Eagles fell behind by four in the first half, and couldn't quite recover as Hampden-Sydney outscored UMW by seven points in the second half. UMW, however, led by five mid-way through the first half, 18-13 before HSC went on a 17-8 run to close out the last 10 minutes of the half.

Zack Blue was a bright spot for the Eagles with 16 points of 7-of-13 shooting, while Jay Randall also reached double-figures with 10 points of his own on a 3-for-3 night, while adding four points from the free throw line.

As a team, Mary Washington shot 22-of-50 (44%), while adding six 3-pointer's on 19 attempts (31.6%). On the boards, Mary Washington remained close as it trailed HSC by one, 28-27. Hampden-Sydney, tough, was 25-of-51 from the floor (49%) and was 10-of-29 from deep (34.1%).

Mary Washington closed out its regular season on Saturday and will be gearing up for the Coast-to-Coast Conference Tournament from Thursday-Saturday, which is hosted in Fredericksburg, Va.
