UMW Men's Basketball Falls at Salisbury, 73-57

The University of Mary Washington men's basketball team fell at Salisbury University, 73-57, on Saturday afternoon in Coast to Coast Athletic Conference action. The Eagles slip to 15-5 on the season.

Salisbury came out firing on this day, building a 20 point lead by halftime, 47-27, as the Eagles struggled from the field. Salisbury scored the first five points, and led, 8-4, before UMW gained the lead on consecutive three pointers from senior guard Riley Welch. Salisbury answered with an 11-1 run to take a 19-11 lead. Senior guard Da'Shawn Cook responded with a three point basket to draw UMW to within 19-14, but the Sea Gulls hit three straight three pointers to open the margin to 10, and followed with an 11-0 run to up the margin to 47-27 at halftime.

The Eagles shot significantly better in the second, outscoring the hosts, 30-26. Junior forward Colin Coyne got the Eagles started in the second half, scoring the first two baskets, as the Eagles quickly drew back to within 15. The second half saw the Eagles held at bay, as the margin bounced back between 15 and 25 points, with UMW cutting the final margin of victory to 18.

Senior forward Emmanuel Aghayere led the Eagles with 14 points on 6-7 shooting from the floor. Welch was the only other Eagle in double figures with 11.

UMW shot 38.7% from the field (24-62), making 6-33 from three point range, and went 3-7 from the free throw line. Salisbury shot 50% for the game (28-56), making 8-24 three point attempts and 9-12 free throws. 

The Eagles will be back in action on Wednesday evening when they visit Christopher Newport University at 7:00 p.m.
