UMW Men's Basketball Falls at Eastern Mennonite, 79-71

Sophomore forward Sean Armstrong scored 20 points and freshman Lamonte Fields added 14, but the University of Mary Washington men's basketball team couldn't overcome 25 turnovers in a 79-71 loss at Eastern Mennonite University on Wednesday night in Harrisonburg. The Eagles fall to 3-5 on the season.

The Eagles fell behind early and could never fight their way back, trailing 16-4 in the opening five minutes, and by as many as 17 in the first half, at 29-12 with 8:14 left. But the Eagles fought back, with a 10-2 to end the half and cut the halftime deficit to 42-36.

In the second, The Royals were able to keep the Eagles at arms' length throughout, as UMW was able to cut the deficit to four on three occasions, finally with 56 seocnds left on a free throw by Armstrong, but the Royals scored the final four points at the line in the 79-71 win.

Armstrong went 6-11 from the floor and 8-9 from the line, while Fields went 6-13with a three-pointer and added a team-high nine rebounds. Junior Dylan Farinet added eight points for the Eagle attack. EMU was led by Ryan Yates, who paced four Royals in double figures with 18 points.

Mary Washington will return to action on December 28 when they face Keene State College in Montclair, N.J. at 5:30 p.m.
