UMW Men's Basketball Falls to York, 76-70

The University of Mary Washington men's basketball team fell behind early and nearly pulled off a come-from-behind win, but fell to visiting York College on Saturday in Capital Athletic Conference action at Goolrick Gymnasium. The Eagles fall to 13-9 overall and 7-7 in CAC play.

The game went back and forth early, as UMW pulled ahead with a three pointer by freshman Bradley Riester at 10-7 five minutes into play, from there, York went on a 7-0 run and held the lead from then on. The Spartans led, 38-34, at halftime, after shooting 46% from the floor. UMW shot 42% and made five three pointers to stay close.

York upped the lead to 14 early in the second half and led by as many as 19 at 64-45 with 7:14 to play. From there, UMW got hot, and went on a 25-6 run to pull to within two at 72-70 with 30 seconds remaining. York would go on to make four of its last six free throws while the Eagles missed its last two shots in the six-point defeat.

The Eagles were led by freshman E.J. Willis (Alexandria, Va., T.C. Williams)15 points and six rebounds, while junior Tad Dickman (Springfield, Va., Robert E. Lee) added 12 points and eight boards. York had five players in double figures, led by Paul Kouvaris' 14 points.

Mary Washington will visit Stevenson University on Wednesday night at 8:00 p.m. in another CAC game.
