Boucher's OT Score Lifts UMW Field Hockey Past Catholic, 3-2

Freshman Lauren Boucher (Virginia Beach, Va. / Frank W. Cox) scored the game winning goal with 6:08 remaining in the second overtime to lift the University of Mary Washington field hockey team to a 3-2 victory at Catholic University on Wednesday evening in Washington, D.C. The Eagles improve to 7-4 on the season.

The Eagles jumped ahead midway through the first quarter, as sophomore Riley Tengwall (Grasonville, Md. / Kent Island) scored on a long pass from Boucher with 7:11 elapsed. The score stood 1-0 until the third quarter, as Catholic knotted the score. In the fourth, UMW resumed the lead with 12:23 remaining in regulation, as junior Maggie Ellis (Richmond, Va. / Trinity Episcopal) scored on a rebound unassisted.

Catholic tied the score four minutes later, sending the game to overtime. Neither team could find the game winner until 6:08 remaining in the second extra frame, when Boucher scored unassisted for the game winner.

Catholic led in shots, 18-16, as well as penalty corners, 10-7. UMW junior goalie Chloe Billy made four saves in gaining the win.

UMW will return to action on Sunday when they face Rhodes College at Christopher Newport University in Newport News, Va., at 11:00 a.m.
