UMW Baseball Splits Doubleheader with Hood College

After dropping Game 1 of Friday's doubleheader, the Mary Washington baseball team (10-4) relied on the right arm of Gabe Delgado to push the Eagles past Hood College in Game 2.

Game 1 - Eagles lose - 8-2

The Eagles fell behind by six by the time the bottom of the second inning concluded -- and then seven once the fourth inning was finished. In the fifth and sixth, the Eagles put a run up on the board, pushing the score to 7-2, before Hood scored one more in the bottom of the sixth.

Ryan Schwarz, Ty Lowe (double), Tommy Martinez, Noah Roots and Jacob Christenbury all picked up base hits for the Eagles, while Lowe and Oliver Martin recorded RBIs.

Game 2 - Eagles win - 2-1

It was the right arm of Delgado that put the Eagles in position to win Friday's second leg. Delgado went all seven innings for UMW, striking out five and yielding an unearned run in the 2-1 win over the Blazers.

The Eagles scored twice in the third -- once on a Connor Hassan base hit, then a Burke Stiefman sac fly. Hood would score in the bottom half of the inning, but Delgado was able to work out of the inning without yielding another run.

From there, he shoved, pitching four more scoreless innings in the victory.

The Eagles are back in action on Sunday with a doubleheade against Marymount. First pitch is slated for 12:00 p.m.
