UMW Baseball Falls to Adrian, 5-1, in NCAA Tournament

The University of Mary Washington baseball team dropped a 5-1 decision to Adrian College in an elimination game at the NCAA Division III baseball ournament on Saturday in Marietta, Ohio. The Eagles close the season with a 28-16 record.

Adrian scored first with a run in the bottom of the first, and added another in the third. They plated a run in the sixth and two in the eighth, before the Eagles cored in the ninth. Nick Ciuffreda started the rally with a one-out single, and Bobby Ayscue followed with a double, sending pinch runner Cooper Fulton to third. Ty Lowe produced an RBI ground out to score Fulton for the Eagles' run.

Ayscue led the offense with a single and double. Junior Justin Ritz took the loss, allowing five runs in eight innings on nine hits, with three walks and three strikeouts.

 

The Eagles' advancement to the NCAA Tournament was their first since 2010, and their 12th overall.
