UMW Baseball Falls to #3 Salisbury in C2C Championship Game

The University of Mary Washington fell to third ranked Salisbury University, 22-4, in the 2023 Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference Championship game on Friday afternoon in Salisbury, Md. The Eagles slip to 28-14 on the season.

The Eagles jumped in front in the top of the first. Jacob Christenbury led off with a walk, and Jonathan Sedmak followed with a hit by pitch. A single from Bobby Ayscue loaded the bases, and Christenbury scored on a double play.

After Salisbury tied the score with a run in their half of the first, UMW went back ahead in the second, as Ryan Schwarz walked and Xavier Herring was hit by a pitch, before an RBI double from Andrew Gerhart. Despite the early runs, the Eagles stranded three runners in scoring position in the first two innings.

UMW went ahead, 3-1, in the third, as Ty Lowe connected for a solo home run. The Sea Gulls scored four in the third, en route to 17 in the next five innings.

The Eagles plated one in the eighth, as Nick Ciuffreda reached on catcher's interference and Tommy Martinez and Cooper Fulton walked to load the bases, and Mike Dennis followed with an RBI fielder's choice.

The Eagles offense was led by Bobby Ayscue's three hits, and Lowe's home run. Both finished Friday's two games with five hits each. Freshman Jackson Myers took the loss, as he allowed five runs on four hits in three innings, with two walks and two strikeouts.
