Eight Eagles Named to All-C2C Baseball Team; Herring Claims Scholar-Athlete

Eight University of Mary Washington baseball players were honored on the 2023 All-Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference Baseball Team, announced today, and senior Xavier Herring claimed the league's Scholar-Athlete of the Year award. Junior pitcher Brendan McComber, junior first baseman Noah Roots, senior third baseman Jonathan Sedmak, junior outfielder Bobby Ayscue, and junior designated hitter Ty Lowe were all named to the first team, while senior catcher Andrew Gerhart, freshman pitcher Jackson Myers, and junior pitcher Justin Ritz were named as honorable mention picks.

Herring gains the C2C Scholar-Athlete of the Year award after graduating with a 3.94 grade-point average with a degree in Psychology. In his four-year career with the Eagles, Xavier has played in 76 games, batting .275 with 50 hits, with eight doubles and three triples. He scored 42 runs and drove in 27, and added eight stolen bases. He is a four-year member of the  C2C All-Academic Team and UMW Athletic Honor Roll.

A three-time all-conference performer, McComber has produced an 8-1 record with one save in 13 appearances, striking out 57 in 57.1 innings pitched, with a 4.21 earned run average. He struck out 11 in a victory over Keystone. Roots overcame an early season injury to bat .424 in 25 games, with four doubles, a triple, and a home run. He has driven in 17 runs, walking 10 times against just eight strikeouts.

A repeat all-conference selection, Sedmak is hitting .343 in 39 games, with eight doubles and four home runs. He has scored 40 runs, and driven in 29. He hit a single, double, and home run at Salisbury this season. Ayscue repeats as a first team selection after batting .359 while playing all 40 games, with 16 doubles, five triples, and three home runs. He has scored 47 runs and driven in 35 while stealing 14 bases. Lowe is also a three-time all-C2C performer, and batted .358 with six doubles and four home runs, driving in 44 runs and scoring 30 on the season.

Gerhart gains all-conference honors after batting .289 with six doubles and 16 runs scored, with 11 RBI in 76 at bats. Myers claims honorable mention accolades after posting a 4-4 record with a 4.14 earned run average, with 57 strikeouts in 63 innings. Ritz has posted a 4-4 record with a 3.81 earned run average, with 41 strikeouts in 52 innings pitched.

The Eagles will open play in the C2C Tournament against Christopher Newport on Friday in Salisbury, Md. at noon.
