UMW Baseball Falls to Christopher Newport, 5-2, on Sunday

The University of Mary Washington baseball team dropped a 5-2 decision to Christopher Newport University on Sunday afternoon at Capital One Park in Tysons, Va. The Eagles fall to 26-12 on the season.

The Captains pushed ahead with two runs in the fouth, but the Eagles gained one back in their half of the inning, as Ryan Schwarz singled, stole second, and scored on a Cooper Fulton single. After CNU added a run in the fifth and two in the sixth, the Eagles added a run in the bottom of the sixth, as Schwarz and Fulton singled, and Schwarz scored on a Captain error.

Schwarz and Fulton each had three hits for the Eagles, while Bobby Ayscue singled twice. Justin Ritz took the loss, allowing four earned runs on eight hits in 5.2 innings, with one walk and two strikeouts.

The Eagles will take a break for final exams and return to action on May 7 at home against Salisbury University at 2:00 p.m.
