UMW Baseball Tops Marymount, 4-2, for 25th Win

The University of Mary Washington baseball team defeated Marymount University, 4-2, on Monday night at Capital One Park in Tysons, Va. UMW improves to 25-10 on the season.

UMW jumped ahead immediately in the first, as Jacob Christenbury led off with a double, advanced to third on a passed ball, and scored on a sacrifice fly from Jonathan Sedmak. The Eagles added a run in the fifth, when Luke Guerzon walked and scored on a single from Xavier Herring.

The Saints tied the score with two runs in their half of the fifth, but the Eagles went ahead for good with two in the top of the sixth. With one out, Ryan Schwarz singled, stole second, and advanced to third on an error. Guerzon walked and advanced to second, before both runners scored on a single from Mike Dennis.

Schwarz and Herring each had two hits for the Eagles, while Guerzon singled and walked twice. Justin Ritz gained the win, pitching eight innings and allowing two runs on eight hits, with two walks and five strikeouts. Brnedan McComber gained the save, getting out of a bases-loaded jame in the ninth.

The Eagles will be back in action on Thursday when they visit sixth-ranked Randolph-Macon College at 3:30 p.m.
