UMW Baseball Falls at #6 Salisbury, 12-10, on Sunday

The University of Mary Washington baseball team fell at sixth-ranked Salisbury University, 12-10, on Sunday afternoon in Salisbury, Md. The Eagles fall to 24-10 on the season.

Salisbury plated a run in the first on a sacrifice fly, but UMW answered with three runs in the third to take the lead. Andrew Gerhart walked and Jacob Christenbury was hit by a pitch, preceding a three-run homer from Jonathan Sedmak.

The Sea Gulls scored one in the third and three in the fourth to take a 5-3 advantage, before the Eagles got a run back in the fifth, as Xavier Herring singled, stole second, and scored on a Christenbury single. Salisbury plated two in the sixth before UMW scored in the seventh, as Ryan Schwarz singled, stole second, and scored on a Gerhart groundout.

UMW allowed four runs in the seventh, but scored two in the eighth, on a Ty Lowe two-run home run. After Salisbury scored once in the eighth, the Eagles added three more in the ninth, as Schwarz doubled and scored on a Luke Guerzon single, Guerzon scored on a Christenbury sacrifice fly, and Sedmak added an RBI double.

Sedmak led the Eales with two singles, a double, home run, and four RBI, while Schwarz singled a doubled with two runs scored, and Lowe added his third home run of the season.

Freshman Jackson Myers took the loss, as he allowed five runs on seven hits in five innings, with four walks and three strikeouts.

The Eagles will be back in action on Monday when they face Marmount University at Capital One Park in Tysons, Va. First pitch is set for 6:00 p.m.
