UMW Baseball Splits Friday Twinbill with Eastern Nazarene in Myrtle Beach

The University of Mary Washington baseball team split its Friday doubleheader with Eastern Nazarene University in Myrtle Beach, S.C. The Eagles dropped the opener, 8-3, before winning the second, 18-5, and move to 7-5 on the season.

In the first game, ENU scored seve runs in the first two innings, while the Eagles were limited to three runs on five hits with three errors. UMW scored two in the third, as Luke Guerzon knocked in Ty Lowe with an RBI double, and scored on a sacrifice fly from Jacob Christenbury. The Eagles scored one in the sixth as Andrew Gerhardt knocked in Bobby Ayscue with an RBI double.

Jonathan Sedmak led the Eagles with two singles, with Guerzon and Gerhardt adding doubles. Senior Gabe Delgado took the loss, allowing six runs on three hits in two innings.

In game two, the Eagle offense came alive, rapping out 12 hits that led to 18 runs. The Eagles broke open a 3-3 game in the third with six runs, and added nine runs the next two innings.

Sedmak had a pair of hits, scored two runs, and drove in three, while Ayscue was 2-3 with three RBI. Tommy Martinez hit a bases-clearing triple, and Ryan Schwarz added two hits and two runs scored. Christenbury had a hit and three walks.

Ty Lowe gained the win, allowing two earned runs on four hits in five innings, walking one and striking out eight.

The Eagles will take on Keystone College on Saturday at 9 a.m. in Myrtle Beach.
