UMW Baseball Falls to Cabrini University, 12-6, on Wednesday

The University of Mary Washington baseball team falls to Cabrini University on Wednesday afternoon in Myrtle Beach, S.C. The Eagles drop to 6-3 on the season.

UMW had a quiet first two innings, until Andrew Gerhart doubled to left field, putting Luke Guerzon in position to put the Eagles on the board. The score at the end of two had the Cabrini Cavaliers up 9-1, with 3 runs coming in the top of the 1st and the next 6 coming in the top of the 2nd.

Both the Eagles and Cavaliers would have quiet 3rd, 4th, and 5th innings. The top of the 6th brought 3 more Cabrini runs, which UMW senior Jonathan Sedmak would counteract with a run of his own, finding the room to touch home from a single to left field of the bat of Andrew Gerhart.

The remaining scoring opportunities were from UMW in the bottom of the 9th. Ryan Schwarz scored an unearned run off a balk, Bobby Ayscue rounded thanks to a Nate Dulevitz single to left field, Nate Dulevitz scored from Luke Guerzon's single, and Jonathan Sedmak would finish off the game with his second RBI from Alex Purgason's single.

Freshman Andrew Poon is credited with the loss, allowing seven runs on four hits in one inning, with two walks and four strikeouts.

The Eagles will return to action on Thursday against St. Joseph's University (L.I.) in Myrtle Beach, S.C at 2 p.m.
