UMW Baseball Sweeps Juniata on Sunday

The University of Mary Washington baseball team swept a Sunday doubleheader from Juniata College, claiming 4-3 and 11-4 victories. The Eagles improve to 6-2 on the season.

In the opener, the Eagles scored first in the third inning, as Mike Dennis singled and scored on a Xavier Herring single. Juniata went ahead with runs in the fourth and sixth, before the Eagles plated two runs in the sixth. Ryan Schwarz walked and scored on a Jacob Christenbury RBI double. Bobby Ayscue followed with an RBI double to plate Christenbury.

After Juniata tied the score in the seventh, UMW went ahead for good in the eighth, as Christenbury reached on an error and scored on a sacrifice fly.

Christenbury and Ayscue paced the offense with a double each, and accounted for all of the earned runs.

Junior Brendan McComber gained his second win of the season, scattering nine hits in six innings, striking out five and allowing two earned runs.

In game two, the Eagles jumped in front with three runs in the second, and added runs in the third, fourth, fifth, and sixth.

Freshan Ryan Schwar singled and doubled, and drove in three runs, while Ty Lowe singled and doubled as well to lead the offense.

Freshman Jackson Myers gained the win, allowing one earned run on seven hits in fiv innings, with three walks and six strikeouts.

The Eagles will return to action on Wednesday against Cabrini College in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
