UMW Baseball Falls to Juniata, 8-5, on Saturday Afternoon

The University of Mary Washington baseball team fell to Juniata College,8-5, on Saturday afternoon at V. Earl Dickinson Stadium. The Eagles drop to 4-2.

The Battle of the Eagles between Mary Washington and Juniata began with Juniata going up 1-0 in the 1st inning, as a double center field advanced a runner to home. The 2nd inning would go scoreless for both sides, with Juniata scoring 2 more runs in the 3rd inning, 4 runs in the 4th, with the final Juniata run coming in the 5th inning.

The 6th and 7th innings would go unscored, with the UMW Eagles finding their footing in the 8th inning with all 5 of their runs coming in this stretch. Ryan Schwarz would go onto score first for Mary Washington, as he singled and advanced his way home. Cooper Fulton would come up to bat soon after and double to center field, sending Jonathan Sedmak, Bobby Ayscue, and Jacob Christenbury home to bring the score to 8-4. Fulton would advanced to third from a single off the bat of Alex Purgason, then find the room to run home off a wild pitch, bringing the score to 8-5. The 9th inning would bring a single to left field from Mary Washington's Bobby Ayscue, but nothing more.

Gabe Delgado is credited with the loss, allowing nine hits and seven runs in three innings, with two walks and one strikeouts. 

The Eagles will be back in action on Sunday when they host Juniata College at 11:00 p.m.
