UMW Baseball Tops Gettysburg, 8-3, on Monday to Improve to 4-0

Juniors Bobby Ayscue and Ty Lowe continued their red-hot hitting, and junior pitcher Brendan McComber twirled five scoreless innings to lead the University of Mary Washington baseball team to an 8-3 victory over Gettysburg College on Monday afternoon at V. Earl Dickinson Stadium. The Eagles move their early record to 4-0.

The Eagles scored one in the first on a throwing error on a double steal, and added three in the third. Jonathan Sedmak walked in front of an Ayscue two-run homer, and Lowe walked and scored on an RBI single from Mike Dennis.

In the fifth, Luke Guerzon walked and Ryan Schwarz was hit by a pitch, and after a wild pitch, Guerzon scored on an RBI fielder's choice from Dennis. Schwarz then scored on an RBI groundout from Xavier Herring. In the sixth, Ayscue reached on an error and stole second and third before scoring on an RBI single from Guerzon.

Gettysburg scored twice in the seventh, but the Eagles added another n the eighth, as Lowe doubled and scored on a Schwarz double. Gettysburg scored one in the ninth but could pull no closer.

Lowe walked, doubled and singled and Ayscue homered, walked and singled, scoring three runs and driving in two.

McComber gained the win, allowing six hits and no runs in five innings, with two walks and two strikeouts. 

The Eagles will be back in action on Friday when they host Castleton State at 2:30 p.m.
