Men's Cross Country Places 6th, Women Take 11th at NCAA Regionals

The University of Mary Washington men's and women's cross country teams competed in the NCAA Division III South/Southeast Regional Championships in Memphis, Tenn. on Saturday. The men finished sixth among 36 schools, while the women placed 11th among 33 teams.

On the men's side, senior Jeff Gibson finished third overall with a time of 25:08, to gain all-region honors and advance to the NCAA National Championship next weekend in Louisville, Ky. Junior Dillon Schweers finished 36th at 26:13, and freshman Patrick Brown took 37th at 26:18. Sophomore Matthew O'Cadiz took 57th place at 26:45, and freshman Patrick Murphy rounded out the Eagles' top five in 72nd place, at 26:56.

For the women, junior Ashley Applegate finished in 19th place at 22:38 on the 6K course, gaining all-region honors. Freshman Grace Pippin finished 67th at 23:52, sophomore Amber Zipfel took 80th at 24:04, and sophomore Kenzie Lloyd finished 98th at 24:28. Junior Angelica Gaughran rounded out the Eagles' top five in 101st place, at 24:32.

Gibson will return to the NCAA Championship for the third straight year next weekend.
