Jeff Gibson Named CAC Cross Country Runner of the Week

The Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) has announced its weekly awards following the final races of September. Salisbury sophomore Heather Delaplaine earned CAC Women's Athlete of the Week accolades, while Mary Washington senior Jeff Gibson claimed CAC Men's Athlete of the Week honors.


WOMEN'S ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Heather Delaplaine - Salisbury

Salisbury sophomore Heather Delaplaine finished second overall in the Hornet Harrier Invitational on Saturday to help Salisbury win the meet as a team. Delaplaine, who raced against 145 runners from 17 programs, finished the 5k race with a time of 19:15.9.


MEN'S ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Jeff Gibson - Mary Washington

Mary Washington senior Jeff Gibson led Mary Washington to a first place finish at the Shenandoah University Hornet Harrier on Saturday among 20 schools. He finished in first place overall on the 6K course at 18:57, as the Eagles won with 53 points, 55 clear of second place Catholic.

AROUND THE CAC

Blake Nelson was York's top finisher at the Elizabethtown College Short Course Invitational on Friday in Lebanon,PA. Nelson was York's top finisher as he placed 42nd overall as he crossed the line in a time of 20:24.56...Junior Emma Rogers was York's top finisher at the Elizabethtown College Short Course Invitational on Friday. Rogers placed 48th of 121 runners as she crossed the finish line in a time of 19:54.55...Adam Wosahla led Christopher Newport in the 6k during the Hornet Harrier Invitational on Saturday at the Kernstown Battlefield. During the race, he crossed the line in 20:59.0. That placed him 44th overall and established a new PR for the second-year Captain...Shannon Woods led the Captains in the 5k during the Hornet Harrier Invitational on Saturday at the Kernstown Battlefield. During the race, the senior posted a time of 21:32.9. That clocking placed her 34th in the field and established a new PR while shaving over a minute off of her 5k time from the William & Mary Invitational earlier in the month...Camy Delean led Mary Washington to a second place finish among 17 schools at the Shenandoah University Hornet Harrier. She finished third overall on the 5K course at 19:50...Salisbury junior Mason Kimbell finished 6th overall at the Hornet Harrier Invitational hosted by Shenandoah University on Saturday morning. Kimbell, who raced against 198 runners from 20 different programs, finished the 6k race with a time of 19.32.5...After missing the last meet, Kara Taylor led St. Mary's with a time of 20:28.6 which was good enough for 11th out of 143 total runners...Tyler Wilson finished first for the Seahawks in 52nd place with a time of 21:08.2 at the Hornet Harrier Invite...Mike Myers led Southern Virginia at the Virginia Commonwealth Challenge finishing second overall of 193 runners with a time of 19:07 on the 6K course. The strong individual finish placed the Knights third out of 20 teams...Jill Westman led the Knights to a fifth-place finish overall while placing ninth overall in the competitive field at the Virginia Commonwealth Challenge posting a time of 20.17.
