UMW Men's XC Take First, Women Take Second at UMW Opener at Clift Farm

The University of Mary Washington men' scross country team finished in first place, while the women's team placed second among five teams at the UMW Opener held at nearby Clift Farm in Stafford County.

The men took first with 31 points, followed by Southern Virginia with 38, Christopher Newport with 51, St. Mary's with 93, and Marymount with 112.

The Eagles saw freshman Patrick Brown finish first at 15:44.32, followed by Jeff Gibson in third, at 16:07.08, Matthew O'Cadiz in sixth at 16:39.92, and Miles Spence in 10th at 16:49.40. Ryan Tinsley was 11th at 16:52,40 to round out the Eagles' top five.

For the women, Mary Washington finished in second place with 33 points, two behind first-place Southern Virginia (31), followed by Christopher Newport in third (67), St. Mary's College (87), and Marymount University (107).

The Eagles were led by freshman Amanda Morrissey, who took third place overall at 15:28.07. Camy Delean was fourth at 15:49.81, Ashley Applegate took sixth at 16:01.24, and Amber Zipfel finished eighth at 16:03.63. Kenzie Lloyd rounded out the top five in 12th place at 16:13.73.

Both the men and women will return to action on September 14 when they visit the Catholic University Invitational.
