FREDERICKSBURG, Va. - Two-time defending champion York was picked as the favorite to three-peat in the 2018 Capital Athletic Conference Women's Cross Country Preseason Poll. The Spartans received six first-place votes and totaled 47 points to lead the CAC field of eight cross country teams.
Christopher Newport edged Mary Washington and Salisbury for the second spot in the poll. The Captains tallied 38 points and one first-place vote, while UMW and Salisbury were each one point behind CNU in a tie for third place. The Sea Gulls received the other first-place vote in the polling of the conference head coaches.
Southern Virginia was fifth with 26 points, followed by St. Mary's (17 points), Frostburg State (14 points) and Penn State Harrisburg (8 points).
The 2018 season begins on Friday, Aug. 31. The CAC Championships will be hosted by Southern Virginia in Buena Vista, Va. on Saturday, Oct. 27, with regionals and nationals set for Nov. 10 & Nov. 17, respectively.
