UMW Volleyball Splits Saturday Matches with Arcadia, Geneseo

The University of Mary Washington volleyball team split its Saturday matches with Arcadia University and SUNY Geneseo in Lancaster, Pa., on Saturday, to move to 1-2 on the season. The Eagles fell to Arcadia in four games before topping Geneseo in five.

In the Arcadia match, the Eagles dropped the first two sets, 25-19 and 25-22, before coming back to win the third, 25-18. The Knights rebounded to take the fourth, 25-20. 

Seniors Peyton Dunow and Savannah Powers led the Eagle charge, as Dunow scored 15 kills against five errors in 34 attempts, and also added eight digs, while Powers scored 15 kills against two errors in 37 attempts.

Junior Wren Berry provided 30 assists, while senior Ellie Benning added 17, and senior Kendal Hall led with 12 digs. Freshman Krista Rodgers led with four solo blocks.

UMW won a five-setter against Geneseo, falling in the opening game, 27-25, and then evening the count with a 26-24 win in game two. The Eagles fell in the third, 25-23, only to storm back with 25-19 and 15-8 wins to take the match.

Powers led the Eagles with 21 kills against just one error in 46 attempts, while Dunow added 13 kills and 11 digs. Berry posted 34 assists and Hall led with a career-high 28 digs, and Powers led with five solo blocks.

The Eagles will open their home slate on Wednesday when they host Randolph-Macon College at Rosner Arena at 7 p.m.
