The University of Mary Washington volleyball team found itself trailing late in each of the first two games, but rebounded to capture both en route to a 3-0 victory over previously unbeaten McDaniel College on Friday evening at Ron Rosner Arena. Game scores were 27-25, 27-25, 25-19; the Eagles improve to 6-1 on the season.

The Green Terror opened by taking a 7-4 advantage in the first, before four straight points gave the Eagles an 8-7 lead. McDaniel regained the lead before the score was tied at 10, 11, and 12. McDaniel scored the next two points but UMW answered with two to again even the tally, 14-14.

Trailing 15-14, McDaniel scored four straight to take a 19-16 lead, and led 22-19. A kill from junior Peyton Dunow kickstarted the late Eagle charge, but not before the Green Terror pulled to within a point of victory at 24-21. After a service error, junior Kendal Hall provided a pair of aces, and an error led to the Eagles resuming the lead at 25-24, and, after a McDaniel kill tied the score, an attack error and a kill from freshman Keri Gearhart gave the Eagles a 27-25 win in the first.

The second game saw five lead changes in the early going, before McDaniel ran out to a 13-9 lead. The teams traded scores until the Green Terror led, 15-11. From there, the Eagles scored four straight points to tie the score before McDaniel regrouped and grabbed a 23-21 advantage. Two kills from Dunow and a Green Terror error gave UMW a 24-23 edge, and after a pair of points from the visitors, the Eagles scored the final three to take the second game, 27-25.

In the third, the score was tied seven times to reach a 9-9 score, when McDaniel scored five straight to take a 13-9 edge. The Eagles chipped away, cutting the deficit to 15-14 on a Dunow kill, and five straight Eagle points gave the home team a 20-17 lead. Another four-point rally, highlighted by kills from junior Skyler Sisk and freshmen Keri Gearhart and Alana Harris ran the score to match point at 24-19. A Green Terror service error provided the capper in a 25-19 victory.

The balanced UMW attack saw Gearhart lead with eight kills, with Dunow scoring seven and Sisk and Harris each adding six. Junior Kendal Hall posted 17 assists and sophomore Wren Berry 13, and Harris eld with three aces. Senior Ryan Cho scored 17 digs as the lone Eagle in double figures, while senior Leslie Walters led with five block assists without an error.

The Eagles will return to action next Wednesday when they host Lynchburg College at 7:00 p.m.
