#15 UMW Women's Tennis Falls to #3 Wesleyan, 5-2, in NCAA Tournament 3rd Round

The 15th ranked University of Mary Washington women's tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision to third ranked Wesleyan (Conn.) University on Sunday in the third round of the NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Tournament in Lexington, Va. The Eagles close with a 13-6 record.

In doubles, Wesleyan jumped ahead with victories in all three matches. Kristina Yu and Renna Moshen-Breen defeated Hana Kimmey and Emily Beckner at three, 8-4, Sophie Henderson and Nikka Vessley topped Claire Coleman and Amanda Hagino at two, 8-4, and Caitlyn Ferrante and Sasha Gaeth defeated Abby Moghtader and Lauren Quinn, 8-7, at one.

After falling at five to fall behind 4-0, the Eagles mounted a serious charge, as Beckner defeated Gaeth at six, 7-6, 6-2, and Quinn won in three sets at three, 2-6, 7-5, 6-1. Moghtader fell in three sets to Ferrante to conclude the match, with Hagino leading in the third set and Coleman on serve in the third.

Moghtader will advance to the NCAA singles tournament, and Moghtader and Quinn will advance to the NCAA national singles and doubles tournaments on May 26-28 in Orlando, Fla. at the USTA national campus.
