UMW Women's Tennis Tops Christopher Newport, 6-3, on Sunday

The University of Mary Washington women's tennis team defeated Christopher Newport University, 6-3, on Sunday in Newport News in Coast 2 Coast Athletic Conference action. The Eagles improve to 8-2 on the season, and 7-0 in Division III play.

The Eagles gained a 2-1 lead after doubles, as Claire Coleman and Amanda Hagino won at two, 8-6, and Hana Kimmey and Olivia Moore won at three, 8-2.

In singles action, the Captains tied the score at 2-2, before Moore won in straight sets at six (6-2, 7-6 (3)) and Kimmey won in straight sets at five, 7-6 (4), 6-3. Abby Moghtader won in three sets at one to clinch the decision, 6-0, 2-6, 6-4, and Hagino closed out the match with a three-set win at four, 2-6, 7-5, 6-3.

Mary Washington will host Washington & Lee University on Thursday at 3:30 p.m.
