UMW Women's Tennis Opens with 9-0 Win Over Washington College

The University of Mary Washington women's tennis team defeated Washington College, 9-0, on Friday evening at the Ed Hegmann Tennis Facility.

In doubles, UMW's Abby Moghtader and Lauren Quinn topped Alisha White and Irene Meng, 8-3, and Claire Coleman and Amanda Hagino followed at two with an 8-6 win over Ella Samer and Piper Sartison. Hana Kimmey and Olivia Moore completed the sweep with an 8-7 (3) victory over Bin Nguyen and M.C. Diaz-Nazario.

In singles, Moghtader topped Sartison at one, 6-3, 6-2, and Kimmey topped White at four, 6-2, 6-3, for the clinching point. Sophie Dixon defeated Samer, 6-2, 6-3, at five, and Rachel Cooper topped Diaz-Nazario at three, 7-5, 4-6, 10-8. Hagino provided the capper with a 6-7, 6-3, 10-6 win at two over Meng.

The Eagles will return to action on March 19 when they visit George Mason University at 3:00 p.m.
